Preserving Inuit Culture Through AI
I designed a responsive chatbot platform that makes inuktitut history and culture accessible through Ayaguta, an interactive animated character powered with Rive. Working with youth artists, community members, and the Ai! Project Language Committee, I created an experience where users could ask questions and hear stories in Inuktitut, English, and French as well as other features such as translation and looking things up in a inuktitut dictionary.
The intention for Ayaguta's interactions is to feel warm, not transactional. Working with Rive animations, I created responses through data binding that honor the storytelling tradition at the heart of Inuit culture. The challenge was making AI feel human while handling complex technical requirements like file sizes, speech recognition for spoken Inuktitut, and interactive learning tools.
I extended the experience beyond web, designing touch interactions for smart TVs deployed at a historic Nunavik cultural event.
